Blooming Tea Description

Flowering (Blooming) Tea

Flowering tea or blooming tea consists of a bundle of dry tea leaves wrapped around dry flowers. The majority of such teas are green, but white and black can also be found. The use of green non-oxidized tea is wider spread because such tea leaves are much easier to give the required form than to the brittle and dry oxidized teas. These are made by binding tea leaves and flowers together into a bulb and are then set to dry. During steeping of such tea, the bulbs unfold and release spectacular view of the beautiful flowers emerging as a centerpiece. It remains uncertain whether flowering tea was a modern creation or was a much older invention of China.

History

There is no single opinion on the matter of time origin of the flowering tea. Some historians say that this form is already a few hundreds of year’s old, recalling references in the Chinese Literature of the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279) on the first "demo" tea, where "...tea leaves were linked together with the colors for the entertainment of the emperor..."

Other sources suggest 80-ths of the twentieth century.
